Obesity may not be cured by diet and exercise, researchers say

Sustained obesity has multiple biological causes and up to 95% of people who lose weight gain it back, so the condition may not be cured by just diet and exercise, U.S. researchers wrote in a comment published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Christopher Ochner of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai said few people really recover from obesity and are "biologically very different from individuals of the same age, sex and bodyweight who never had obesity." Healio 


Study links reduced stroke risk to Mediterranean-style diet 
Close adherence to a Mediterranean-style diet led to a lower risk of ischemic stroke compared with the least compliance, according to researchers from Columbia University Medical Center. The study, to be presented at the American Stroke Association's annual meeting, found that the diet did not affect risk for a hemorrhagic stroke. Healthday News


Exercise could stem depression in adults who have rheumatic conditions 
Researchers analyzed data from 29 studies and 2,449 adults with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus and found that patients who included exercise in their treatment plans were significantly less likely to suffer from symptoms of depression.
